November 2022: Washington COVID-19 proclamations rescinded
On October 31, 2022, Washington State Governor Jay Inslee rescinded all COVID-19 emergency proclamations and “state of emergency” status.
Per Washington State Department of Health guidance issued November 1, 2022 (COVID-19 Prevention and Mitigation Guidance for Institutions of Higher Education), WWU will:
- Continue to maintain awareness of COVID-19 guidance, and to consult with local health authorities as needed for the health and well-being of our campus community.
- Follow Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) requirements for workplaces.
- Notify local health authorities and/or the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) of any COVID-19 outbreaks.
- Encourage students and employees who exhibit COVID-19-like symptoms to stay home from work or school, and to get tested for COVID-19.
- Provide COVID-19 isolation and quarantine support for students.
- Encourage habits to maintain general wellness on our campuses and slow the spread of illness.
Some requirements may be still in place
WWU partners with various organizations—such as school districts or health care facilities—to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students. As indicated by their specific state or local requirements, those organizations may enforce COVID-19 safety measures specific to their workplace.
In the spirit of partnership and cooperation, WWU will work with students to comply with these community workplace requirements so that academic progress is not impeded.
Masks and vaccines
Masks are optional on WWU campuses. Individuals may continue to wear face coverings and practice other COVID-19 safety measures for many reasons, and WWU supports this choice.
There is no state-wide vaccination mandate; however, some of WWU’s partner organizations may enforce COVID-19 safety measures—including vaccination—specific to their workplaces.
